Vanessa’s Wedding Diaries: The Big Day(s)

Vanessa's Final Wedding DiaryHooray, we’re married!

The days leading up to the wedding were stressful because of the traveling and last-minute personal stuff going on. In fact, by the time we got to Las Vegas and settled into our hotel room, I was all set and ready for it to be over!

The only time I got cold feet was the morning of the wedding when I realized that this day was all about me. I’ve never been good with huge amounts of attention and getting married means that suddenly everyone’s attention is on you. I panicked at this thought, but thankfully my best friend was able to calm me down.

At the wedding venue, the wedding people locked my best friend and I up in a tiny room for 30 minutes before the ceremony. Maybe they thought I would run away? I don’t know. Throughout the waiting period our guests and the wedding staff marveled at how un-nervous both the bride and groom were. Honestly, I think we both just wanted it to be done so that we could go eat. We had a short ceremony, did a rose exchange and then it was time for photos. Hundreds and hundreds of photos, none of which we bought.

Once our photo shoot was over we hopped back into our limo and went for the biggest, tastiest buffet I’ve had in quite some time. Carrying a bouquet and wearing wedding attire meant that we got lots of favors from the waiter, discounts and even a free bottle of champagne!

Reception Number Two

Once back in Canada, we had a second reception for the people who weren’t able to travel to Las Vegas. We managed to cut costs by having a cocktail hour rather than a sit-down dinner and it was fantastic. I ate a ton of veggies and cheese and we all drank a lot of wine!

Our biggest splurge, if you can call it that, was an ice cream cake. I’m a huge fan of ice cream cake and try to get one as often as life allows. While my fiancé husband wanted to get a vanilla sheet cake from the grocery store, I pressed and pressed until we got a gigantic ice cream cake. As an added bonus, we didn’t finish it, meaning that we’ll be able to keep with tradition and eat a piece on our one-year anniversary.

This wedding has been a crazy experience, but I’m so happy that it’s over now and that I’ll (hopefully) never, ever have to have a wedding again!
