Business owners with excellent credit scores can apply for the American Express Business Gold Rewards card.

This is a charge card, so you have to pay off the balance in full each month. Fortunately, the grace period for the American Express Business Gold Rewards card is more than double the average: 55 days compared to the standard 21 days.

If you fail to pay off the balance, an interest charge of 30% will be applied.

Cardholders earn one point for every dollar spent on eligible purchases with the card. They also have the ability to customize their rewards plan: American Express lets you choose three merchants where you’ll earn twice the points whenever you shop there. The maximum points you can earn annually is 250,000.

You can get a head start on maxing out your points with the American Express Business Gold Rewards' welcome bonus. After you charge $5,000 to your card within the first three months of ownership, 30,000 points will be added to your account.

The card has other advantages for business owners, including quarterly and annual expense management reports, dynamic purchasing power, and 24-hour customer service.

Why get the American Express Business Gold Rewards Card?

30,000-point bonus -  American Express Business Gold Rewards card members are eligible to receive a welcome bonus of 30,000 rewards points—about $300 in cash. To obtain these points, the cardholder must spend $5,000 within three months of activating the card.

Tax-deductible annual fee - Under certain circumstances, cardholders can claim the annual fee as a tax-deductible business expense.

It mixes business and pleasure - Yes, this is a business card, but it still offers perks. The American Express Business Gold Rewards card is partnered with The Hotel Collection, which has over 600 member hotels and resorts in over 30 countries.

When holders of the American Express Business Gold Rewards book a stay with one of these member hotels through  American Express Travel, they're entitled to the following extras:

  • A credit of up to $100 USD for amenities like spa treatments, golf, and dining experiences (room service excluded).
  • A complimentary room upgrade at check-in, when available.

Transfer your points - For no extra charge, points can be transferred to competing frequent flyer and loyalty programs, including Aeroplan and Avios.
