By: Cliff Ritter on May 11, 2014
Meet Laura who submitted a list of money saving tips she learned from her mother as a young girl.  Laura’s advice is an excellent checklist for households to ensure they remain on budget, and live within their means.

"The money saving wisdom tips I remember from my Mother are:

Pay yourself first (10% of your income to its own savings account)
Use coupons! (Don’t be embarrassed to save money)
You don’t always have to have the best of the best being happy and having fun are more important
When you’re window shopping leave your wallet at home so you don’t make an impulse purchase
A penny earned is a penny saved!
Turn off the lights when you leave a room (you’ll save money on your electricity bill)
Never spend money you don’t have, credit cards are not your friend
But the best tip is before making a purchase ask yourself if you want it or need it, because if you don’t need it don’t buy it. Put it back and if you really need it later go back and buy it, if it isn’t there it wasn’t meant to be."
