Now that you have a car, the last thing you want to do is spend more money on insurance. I’m always looking for ways to cut back and save a few bucks.

One of the most expensive places to live is Ontario. So, how do you lower your Ontario car insurance premiums?

Wait for tickets to come off your record

There might be a guilty conviction on your record that’s really hurting your rates. We all make mistakes. I found myself with a ticket that ended up with a guilty conviction. I looked for advice and I found out that my best option was to wait it out. I know that this isn’t the answer that you want to hear. The good news is that if you improve your driving, then your past mistakes will eventually go away.

Consider moving

Your insurance rates are based on where you live because the companies assess the likelihood of getting into an accident in every specific area. You don’t have to change your whole life around, but this is another incentive to finally make that deposit on the new place you’ve had your eye on. Your insurance provider will be happy if you move to a safer community or if you move out of the city. Just getting away from high-accident areas can lower your Ontario car insurance premiums.

Increase your deductible

If you’ve had a pretty solid record the last few years, you might want to up your deductible. You can increase your deductible from $500 to $1,000 and save money on your Ontario car insurance premiums since you’re taking on more of the financial responsibility. This is a solid option for confident drivers. Make sure you have an emergency fund that can handle your new deductible.

Buy a new car

I know that this is an added expense, but if you’re sick of your current car and are in the market for something new, you could end up saving money when it comes to your insurance. You also could save money on fuel with your new vehicle.

Look into possible discounts

If you don’t ask the answer is always no. Ask for additional discounts. You can even get a small discount if you drive with winter tires. There are all sorts of opportunities to pick up discounts. You can even batch your different insurance options together (car, home, and life) for better discounts.

Your mailbox is filled with bills. That’s why I hope that one of these tips will help you lower what you’re spending on car insurance. If you want to drive for the luxury or need to drive for work, then the best you can do is find ways to lower what you’re spending when you get on the road.
