How Much Money is the White House Worth?

Experts agree that housing is coming back across the US as homes have begun reclaiming some of the value they lost during the housing crash.  The recovery has returned value to homes of all size and style, but the most impressive turnaround has to be for what is arguably the country’s most famous dwelling – The White House.

Since President Obama moved to the nation’s capital in 2009, the White House has appreciated in value by 7 percent – given the previous occupant, the property’s value increase isn’t that surprising.  As of 2013, the White House is worth an estimated $295 million, and most housing analysts expect homes across the country – including the White House – will regain more value throughout the year.

The White House will only ever be occupied by the President of the United States.  However, it’s interesting to consider what a typical American would pay for the property if ever given the chance.  A 30 year fixed closed mortgage rate remains around 3.3 percent if a 20 percent down payment has been made.

Given the price tag for the property, a 20 percent down payment is roughly $59 million.  Therefore, a 30 year monthly mortgage payment would cost an estimated $1.13 million for the White House – renters would face an even steeper $1.75 million every month to rent out the property.

Would you pay over $1 million every month if it meant owning the White House?
