The Canadian Personal Finance Conference (CPFC). We went. We learned. We liked. Here are some of our favourite moments from this year’s annual money geek conference!
When we met our fav personal finance bloggers IRL
As a company in the personal finance space that develops content to help Canadians make smart money decisions, we’ve had the pleasure of working with a number of wonderful personal finance bloggers. It was nice to finally put names to Twitter handles!
Desirae Odjick of Half Banked
Alyssa Fischer of Mixed Up Money
Janine Rogan of My Pennies My Thoughts
John Robertson of Holy Potato
Sarah + Scott of Couple of Sense
When Preet Banerjee told us we were hardwired to suck at our finances
For real though. He actually said that in his presentation. A scientific explanation for why most of us just aren’t able to figure out this money thing. I hate it when you’re right, Preet!
When an 8-year old schooled us in taxes
...and RRSPs, TFSAs, and math in general. Not kidding. She was an adorable and brilliant kid who wow’d the whole room with her grasp of financial number crunching. When I was 8, I knew how to build a snow fort.
8 yr old Carlie's rule: Future income is more than today's income=TFSA. Future income is less than half of today's income=RRSP. #CPFC16— Romana King (@RKHomeowner) November 19, 2016
#cpfc16 Love that an 8 year old is teaching us what are RRSPs and TFSAs!! pic.twitter.com/1RinKO6nJQ— Alexander Brett Fung (@AlexanderBFung) November 19, 2016
When it was confirmed that Rob Carrick was the coolest guy ever
Smartest guy in the room and coolest guy in the room? Yep. That’s Rob. Canada’s money voice for the everyman. His Friday night fireside chat was a highlight for us. Biggest takeaway? Challenge financial writers (both of the corporate and blogging variety) to take a firm stance. Even if you’re wrong, it’s important that you actually say something instead of trying to account for every possibility. It’s worse to be safe than to be wrong. Rob, you’re so right.
All in all, we had a blast. Kudos to all of the organizers, speakers, and attendees. Already looking forward to next year!
