Aviva partners up for free emergency preparedness app

When it comes to protecting your home, nothing pays like being prepared. That’s why it’s cool that Aviva Canada and the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction (ICLR) have partnered up to create an app that will hopefully reduce the amount of property damage Canadians get thanks to severe weather.

The app is called Plan & Protect, and it’s available in both the App Store and Google Play for Apple and Android devices. Not only is the app free, but by downloading, users are actually giving back to the community as Aviva has pledged to donate $5 for each of the first 10,000 downloads to the Canadian Red Cross to assist in disaster relief.

Canadian Underwriter reports that the app allows users to create a profile and determine their vulnerability to common perils based on their location. The app then provides useful tips for dealing with emergencies as well as giving alerts for potential weather risks.

An even better feature is the ability to store and access your home and auto policy information right from the app even without an Internet connection. That should make it a lot more clear and convenient on what to do to file your claim.

This app is an innovative step forward towards the development of fintech and its relationship to the insurance business.
