Your questions about Audi auto insurance, answered.

How much does car insurance cost for an Audi?

A bunch of variables determine how much you pay for car insurance. The car make and model you choose is one of them. We’ve run sample quotes for three of the best-selling Audi models in Canada so you can see at a glance how much you might end up paying. All prices are in Canadian dollars.

We’ve also included information about each car’s build quality from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), an independent nonprofit organization funded by North American insurance companies. The institute's aim is to inform the public about vehicle safety by conducting crash safety tests. Insurance companies pay attention to IIHS ratings, though it’s unclear to what extent.

About the Audi A3

  • The Audi A3 is a luxury sedan and is one of the smaller models offered by Audi. There’s also a wagon version.
  • The 2020 Audi A3 is a Top Safety Pick for the IIHS. It earned top ratings (i.e., a rating of ‘good’) in virtually every category for frontal and side collisions, except for a score of ‘average’ for the passenger-side airbags and an ‘adequate’ to ‘poor’ rating for the headlights.
  • The Audi A3’s front-crash prevention system — the Audi Pre Sense system — was given a ‘superior’ rating. It’s made up of sensors that automatically tense up the driver and front passenger seatbelts and also close all windows (including sunroofs) if it senses that a collision is likely.

  • The Audi A4’s front-crash prevention system — the Audi Pre Sense City system — was given a ‘superior’ rating. The Pre Sense system is a frontal camera that scans the road for vehicles and pedestrians that works on speeds of up to 85 km/h and a range of up to 100 metres. If the car senses an object in its path, it triggers a series of warnings and will apply to the brakes fully until the car stops, if necessary.
  • The price range for the Audi A4 starts at $40,000 (for the base model) and caps out at $52,600 for the highest-level trim package.

How auto insurance quotes for Audis are calculated

Beyond the car you drive, other factors — like your personal driving history, your age, gender, and even your postal code — have a major impact on how much you pay each month for car insurance.

In order to run quotes through our tool to show you might pay in premiums for three of Audi’s most popular models, we had to create a user persona for a female and a male driver. In general, men pay higher premiums than women.

Here are the criteria we used:

  • We ran separate quotes for a 30-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman in Ontario.
  • We used the postal code for the LowestRates.ca office in midtown Toronto.
  • We chose the 2020 model for each car.
  • Our personas have been insured continuously since receiving their license. They drive an average of 40 km per day.
  • They drive an average of 40 km per day.
  • We’ve only selected the bare minimum when it comes to insurance coverage (third-party liability insurance).
  • We didn’t apply for any discounts.
  • We indicated that the car has winter tires.
  • We also indicated that the car is parked in a private garage.

Other factors that influence your auto insurance rate

Beyond the risks that insurers have identified for your car’s particular make and model, there are a number of factors that influence how much you pay for your auto insurance.

  • At-fault accidents - If you have been found to be at-fault in any auto collisions in the last six years, you will be paying higher premiums.
  • Type of coverage - The cost of your car insurance is dependent on the type of insurance you purchase and how high your limits are. The more coverage you buy, the higher your premium is going to be.
  • Where you liveIf you live in a highly-populated area you are more likely to pay higher rates. There is a greater chance of you getting into an automobile accident or having your car stolen or broken into if you live in an urban area. Because the risk to insure your vehicle is higher, the cost of your premiums will be too.
